​After a daring escape from the Warsaw ghetto, 11-year old Lilka is torn away from her family. With a name change and new identity papers, her life becomes a masquerade. She must learn to act the role of a Catholic girl living in the Polish country, a role she's not familiar with or prepared for. Will she succeed?

Dana became a strong, independent woman, with a degree in chemistry and a career in medical research. She retired to gardening, hiking and volunteering in her community of Saranac Lake, where she has lived almost a half-century. She was recognized as a Woman of Distinction by Assemblyman Billy Jones in 2022. She is an Adirondack 46er, has hiked across England, grew all her own vegetables and flowers for many years. She volunteered at the Saranac Lake Free Library, as a Master Gardener Volunteer, at the Paul Smith’s Visitor’s Interpretive Center both with school kids and at the butterfly house, at the Adirondack Wildlife Refuge Habitat Awareness Day, at the Saranac Lake Village Improvement Society, and other venues.

​Dana’s message for many years has been that it has been unfair to deny the heroism of many Poles who risked their own lives as well as the lives of their families. In her memoirs she describes the individuals who helped her find Good in the Midst of Evil.

Summer Events – Meet the authors of Good in the Midst of Evil

​Saratoga Springs Jewish heritage festival event, ​Saratoga Springs, NY The Saratoga Jewish Cultural Festival, presents Dana Fast in her story, Good in the Midst of Evil. This is Dana’s saga of her experiences in World War II Warsaw, Poland, as chronicled by her daughter, Yvona. July 7 at 7 PM on Zoom. Dana, now 91, became a strong independent woman, and lives in the Saranac Lake County in the NY Adirondacks, where she has lived for almost a half century. Good in the Midst of Evil is available anywhere books are sold. Good in the Midst of Evil, with Dana and Yvona Fast, will be on Zoom, Thursday, July 7, at 7 PM. Book signing / reading at The Bookstore Plus, Lake Placid NY The Bookstore Plus is pleased to host authors, Dana and Yvona Fast, for a book signing event on Saturday, July 23, 2022, from 1-3 PM to autograph copies of their book "Good in the Midst of Evil”.   About The Book| Good in the Midst of Evil is Dana Fast’s memoir that follows her life story from when she was a little girl after the Germans invaded Poland, her time in the Warsaw Ghetto, her escape from the ghetto, her life in hiding, and into her return to Poland as an adult.
