WELCOME! |
Thanks for stopping by! While you're here, please take a peek at my books, poems, articles and recipes.
My writing comes from varied experiences as an immigrant, as a person with a hidden disability trying to fit into a neurotypical world, as the child of Holocaust survivors, as someone with a deep spiritual life who loves the natural world of lakes and mountains, trees and forests, sun, rain and snow.
I love language. I’m neurodiverse and hyperlexic. As a child, I was fascinated by letters, words, poems, stories. I taught myself to read early, then brought stacks of books home from the public library. A first-generation immigrant American, I lived on three continents and spoke three languages by the time I was ten.

I want to contribute to the world, to make a positive difference in people’s lives. My writing gift is the best way I know I do that. I hone my craft, writing, revising, and submitting for publication.
My creativity also comes out in the kitchen, where I make healthy meals with vegetables from Mom’s garden, roadside stands and the farmers’ market. I have been writing weekly about food since 2005 and have had articles published in newspapers and magazines. See link below to weekly column.

ABOUT DANA FAST
My mother, Dana, became a strong, independent woman, with a degree in chemistry and a career in medical research. She retired to gardening, hiking and volunteering in her community of Saranac Lake, where she has lived almost a half-century. She was recognized as a Woman of Distinction by Assemblyman Billy Jones in 2022. She is an Adirondack 46er, has hiked across England, and grew all her own vegetables and flowers for many years. |
She volunteered at the Saranac Lake Free Library, as a Master Gardener Volunteer, at the Paul Smith’s Visitor’s Interpretive Center both with school kids and at the butterfly house, at the Adirondack Wildlife Refuge Habitat Awareness Day, at the Saranac Lake Village Improvement Society, and other venues.
Dana’s message for many years has been that it has been unfair to deny the heroism of many Poles who risked their own lives as well as the lives of their families. In her memoirs she describes the individuals who helped her find Good in the Midst of Evil.
